How does Instant AI manage subscriber status

Instant AI only sends emails to people who’ve entered their email address on your site and are currently subscribed. This includes anyone who’s:

  • Signed up to your list
  • Entered their email at checkout
  • Made a purchase

Before sending an email, we check if they’re subscribed in:

  1. Shopify
  2. Klaviyo (if connected)
  3. Instant AI’s internal list

If they’re unsubscribed in any of those places, we don’t send the email.


How We Identify Shoppers

We recognise shoppers after they enter their email on your site, usually through a sign-up pop-up or their email address at checkout for abandonment emails.

Once they’ve done that, we can use this information to re-identify them when they return and trigger personalised flows as long as they’re still subscribed and we are compliant with their consent status.


If You Use Klaviyo

If you’re integrated with Klaviyo:

  • Subscriber status is fully synced across Klaviyo and Instant AI through our integration
  • Unsubscribes from either Klaviyo or Instant AI are respected everywhere.
  • Before every email send, we check if they are subscribed in Instant AI and Klaviyo
    • If unsubscribed anywhere, we do not send an email
  • New emails collected on your site from Instant AI sign-up forms are automatically added to Klaviyo as new profiles

If You Don’t Use Klaviyo

If you’re using another platform like Omnisend or Yotpo:

  • We check Shopify and Instant AI for subscriber status before each send.
  • Unsubscribes from Instant AI emails update Shopify automatically.
  • Unsubscribes from your ESP will only be respected if your ESP updates Shopify.

To avoid mismatched data, make sure your email platform keeps Shopify in sync.


FAQ’s

  1. What if someone unsubscribes from a Klaviyo or Omnisend email? If you use Klaviyo, we automatically detect that unsubscribe and stop sending. If you use another platform (like Omnisend), we’ll only know about the unsubscribe if it’s synced to Shopify. That’s why it’s essential your ESP updates subscriber status in Shopify.
  2. Can someone be re-identified if they unsubscribed? Yes — we may still recognise who they are on-site using past behaviour, but we won’t send them any emails if they are unsubscribed in any system we check. If they explicitly re-subscribe in the future we can continue to identify and send them emails
