What is the Rivo integration?
The Rivo integration connects your Rivo loyalty program to Instant AI. Events from Rivo, such as a shopper earning points or reaching a new VIP tier, can start flows in Instant, and each shopper’s points balance and VIP tier sync to their Instant profile.
Why you need it
- Without it, Instant does not know when a shopper joins your program, earns points, redeems a reward or changes tier, so none of your loyalty flows can react to those events.
- Without it, Instant does not know when a shopper joins, pays for or cancels a paid Rivo membership.
- Without it, your emails cannot show a shopper’s points balance or VIP tier.
- Without it, you cannot build segments of loyalty members by points or tier in Instant.
How to set it up
Before you start
- You need an active Rivo account for the same store.
- You need to be able to log in to Rivo and open Settings, so you can create an OAuth app for Instant.
Connecting Rivo
- In your Instant AI dashboard, click the Settings cog in the bottom left corner
- Under Site, select Integrations
- Select the Loyalty tab, or search for Rivo
- Click Connect on the Rivo card
- Copy the redirect URI shown in the setup steps. Keep this window open
- In a new browser tab, log in to Rivo and go to Settings > OAuth Applications
- Click New Application
- Name the app Instant, keep Confidential on, and paste the redirect URI from step 5
- Create the app, then copy the Client ID and Client secret
- Go back to Instant and paste them into the Client ID and Client secret fields
- Click Continue to Rivo
- Approve access for Instant in Rivo
- You return to Instant, and Rivo shows under Connected
Note: Rivo shows the client secret only once. Copy it before you leave the page in Rivo. For more on OAuth apps in Rivo, see Rivo’s guide to OAuth Applications.
When you connect, Instant imports your existing Rivo members, their points balances and their VIP tiers. After that, Instant receives updates from Rivo as they happen.
Setting up a loyalty flow
- Go to Flows in your Instant AI dashboard
- Scroll to the Loyalty section, or the Subscriptions section for paid memberships
- Click Manage flows to see every flow in that section
- Click Set up next to the flow you want
- The flow opens on the Template tab with a starter email already written. Edit the copy and design to suit your brand
- Enable the flow when you are ready to send
Note: If Rivo already sends an email for the same event, turn that email off in Rivo. If you also have Rivo flows in Klaviyo, turn those off too. If you do not, shoppers get two emails for the same event.
How it works
Loyalty flows
Each flow starts when Rivo sends Instant the matching event. 13 flows in the Loyalty section can start from Rivo:
Membership
- Welcome to Loyalty: starts when a shopper becomes a Rivo loyalty member.
Milestones
- Loyalty Birthday: starts when Rivo gives a shopper their birthday points.
Points and store credit
- Points Earned: starts when a shopper earns points.
- Points Adjusted: starts when you change a shopper’s points balance in Rivo.
- Points Expiration: starts when Rivo sends its warning that a shopper’s points will expire.
- Store Credit Awarded: starts when a shopper earns store credit.
Rewards
- Reward Redeemed: starts when a shopper spends points on a reward.
- Reward Reminder: starts when Rivo sends its warning that a shopper’s reward will expire.
Referrals
- Referral Shared: starts when a shopper invites a friend.
- Coupon Awarded: starts when a referred friend claims their referral discount code.
- Referral Completed: starts when a referred friend places an order.
Tiers
- Loyalty Tier Upgraded: starts when a shopper moves up to a higher VIP tier.
- Loyalty Tier Downgraded: starts when a shopper moves down to a lower VIP tier.
Paid membership flows
If you sell paid memberships in Rivo, 4 flows in the Subscriptions section can start from Rivo:
- Subscription Started: starts when a shopper joins a paid Rivo membership.
- Subscription Order Succeeded: starts when a membership payment succeeds.
- Subscription Order Failed: starts when a membership payment fails.
- Subscription Cancelled: starts when a shopper’s paid membership is cancelled.
Loyalty fields in your emails
When Rivo is connected, two loyalty fields are available in the email editor:
- Points balance
- VIP tier
To add one, type {{ in a Rich Text block and search for the field. Loyalty fields are grouped under the Rivo name. Click the field to set a fallback, so shoppers with no value see your fallback text instead.
Tip: The starter emails in each flow already include details from the Rivo event, such as the shopper’s points balance or the reward name. Keep these in place when you edit the copy.
Loyalty filters for shoppers and segments
- Go to Shoppers in your Instant AI dashboard
- Click to add a filter and select Loyalty
- Choose Points balance or VIP tier, then choose a comparison and a value
- Click Apply
You can use the same Loyalty filter when you build a segment.
Loyalty card on the shopper profile
Each shopper profile has a Loyalty card. For a Rivo member, it shows:
- Membership status, with their VIP tier if they have one
- Loyalty provider
- Points balance
If the shopper is not a loyalty member, the card shows Not a loyalty member.
FAQ
Why can’t I set up some of the flows in the Loyalty section with Rivo? New Member Reward, Loyalty Anniversary, Points Reminder, Referral Share Reminder and Loyalty Tier Progress do not start for Rivo stores. Rivo does not send Instant an event for these.
Rivo shows Action needed on the Integrations page. What do I do? Instant has lost access to Rivo, or Rivo has stopped sending Instant its events. Click Manage on the Rivo card and follow the steps to reconnect. Use the same Rivo account as your existing connection.
Can I connect a different Rivo store to the same Instant site? No. Disconnect Rivo first, then connect the other store.
What happens if I disconnect Rivo? Instant removes its connection from your Rivo account, so your Rivo flows stop starting and loyalty data on profiles stops updating. You can reconnect at any time.
