You can crop, rotate, and flip any image directly in the Template Editor. Instant always keeps your original image, so edits are never destructive and you can reset at any time.

To add an image to your email:

  1. Go to Instant AI > Email Templates and open the template you want to edit
  2. Drag the Image block from Add blocks into the editor
  3. Click View library to open the Block Library, then select Images under Your library
  4. Choose an existing image, or click the upload area to select files from your computer

You can also drag and drop an image straight into the editor at any point, without opening the library first. Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and GIF.

To crop or edit an image:

  1. Click the image in the editor to select it
  2. In the left panel, click Crop image
  3. Drag the handles on the image to set your crop area, or type exact values into Width and Height
  4. Select an Aspect ratio if you want a fixed shape (Freeform, Original, 1:1, 4:5, 4:3, 2:3, 3:2, 16:9, and more)
  5. Use the icons on the left of the modal to rotate left, rotate right, or flip the image horizontally or vertically
  6. Click Save changes
  7. Click Save Changes at the top right of the editor to save the template

You can make as many changes as you want before saving. If you come back and edit the image again later, click Reset in the Crop image modal to return to the original.

How image copies work

When you crop or edit an image that already exists in your library, Instant creates a new image rather than overwriting the one you started with. The new copy is created when you save the email template, so if you crop an image and then discard your changes, nothing is added to your library.

  • Your original image stays in your library, untouched
  • The cropped version is added to your library as a separate image
  • Both versions are available to reuse in any email

For example, if you add an image and use it in Email A, then add the same image to Email B and crop it, Instant creates a new copy of the cropped image. Email A keeps the original, and you can reuse either version anywhere in the editor.

FAQ

Does cropping an image change it everywhere it’s used? No. Cropping creates a new image, so every other email using the original is unaffected.

Can I get the original image back after cropping? Yes. Instant preserves the original, so you can open the Crop image modal and click Reset at any time. The original also remains in your library as its own image.

Can I edit an image without adding it to an email first? No. Editing happens on the image block in the Template Editor, so the image needs to be placed in an email before you can crop it.

What editing options are available? Crop (freeform or fixed aspect ratio), exact width and height in pixels, rotate left, rotate right, flip horizontal, and flip vertical.

Will my library fill up with copies? Every cropped version is saved as its own image, so your library grows each time you crop an image that came from the library. You can reuse those copies instead of cropping again.
