How to resend a campaign to shoppers who did not open it

You can send a campaign a second time to only the shoppers who did not open or click it. To do this, save a segment of those shoppers on the Shoppers page, then clone the campaign and send the clone to that segment.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • The original campaign must have already sent.
  • Give shoppers time to open the original before you build the resend, so the segment does not include people who were about to open it.

Step 1: Build a segment of shoppers who did not engage

  1. Go to the Shoppers page in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Click Add filter and select Email activity
  3. Select Has not
  4. In the first dropdown, select Opened or Clicked
  5. In the second dropdown, select Selected campaign
  6. Search for the original campaign and tick it
  7. Under Date, set Is in the last to a number of days that includes the date the original campaign sent
  8. Click Apply

Step 2: Limit the segment to shoppers who were sent the original

The Has not opened or clicked filter matches every shopper who did not engage with that campaign, including shoppers who were never sent it.

  1. If the original campaign used a saved segment or extra filters, add the same filters on the Shoppers page
  2. Check the live count and preview list to confirm the audience looks right
  3. Click Save
  4. Enter a name for the segment, for example “Did not open: [campaign name]”
  5. Confirm to save

Note: If the original campaign went to All Marketing Subscribers, you can skip the first step in this section. Campaigns only send to subscribed shoppers, so unsubscribed shoppers in the segment are left out at send time.

Step 3: Clone the campaign and send it to the segment

  1. Go to Campaigns in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Find the original campaign and click Clone
  3. Open the cloned campaign and go to its audience
  4. Select the segment you saved in Step 2
  5. Change the subject line and preview text
  6. Schedule or send the campaign

Tip: Shoppers who did not open the first send already skipped that subject line in their inbox. A new subject line gives the resend a different first impression.

How it works

  • The segment is dynamic. Instant checks who matches it again at send time.
  • If you schedule the resend, any shopper who opens or clicks the original before the resend goes out drops out of the segment and does not receive it.
  • Shoppers who unsubscribe after the original send are not included in the resend.
  • The resend is a separate campaign, so it has its own results in your campaign analytics.

FAQ

Will shoppers who opened the original receive the resend? No. Shoppers who opened or clicked the original campaign do not match the segment, so they are not sent the resend.

Why are some shoppers who opened the original still in my segment? Instant does not count opens from Apple Mail Privacy Protection, because Apple loads these automatically rather than the shopper opening the email. A shopper whose only open came from Apple Mail Privacy Protection, and who did not click, counts as not opened.

Can I resend to shoppers who opened but did not click? Not in one filter. Opened or Clicked treats an open and a click the same way, so a shopper who opened the original does not match Has not opened or clicked.

Can Instant resend the campaign automatically? No. You build the segment and send the cloned campaign yourself.

Can I use the segment again for the next campaign? The segment is tied to the campaign you selected in the filter. For your next resend, clone the segment from the Shoppers page and change the selected campaign.
