You can add your own prefix, such as SHOP-, to the start of every coupon code that Instant AI creates. The prefix shows in the code your shoppers receive in emails and SMS, and in the code that Instant creates in Shopify.

Why you need one

  • Without a prefix, Instant’s codes look like any other random code in your Shopify orders and order exports.
  • With a prefix, you can find every order that used an Instant code with one filter: codes that start with your prefix.
  • Reporting tools that read your Shopify orders can group Instant’s codes by the prefix.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • The prefix applies to unique codes and Smart Coupon codes only. It does not apply to a single shared code (such as WELCOME10) or to an Existing Shopify Discount. You type those codes yourself, so you can include the prefix in them.
  • No site has a prefix by default. Nothing changes until you set one.

Adding a prefix

  1. Click the Settings cog in the bottom left corner of your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Select Coupons. This opens the Discounts page.
  3. Click the ⋯ menu to the right of Add coupons
  4. Select Code prefix
  5. Type your prefix, for example SHOP-
  6. Check the example code below the field, for example SHOP-4GXVQNG7A
  7. Click Save

Prefix rules

  • Up to 10 characters
  • Letters, numbers, hyphens (-) and underscores (_) only
  • Lowercase letters change to capitals as you type

Note: If your prefix has a character that is not allowed, a message shows below the field and Save stays off until you fix it.

Removing a prefix

  1. Open the Code prefix window from the ⋯ menu on the Discounts page
  2. Clear the field
  3. Click Save

How it works

  • Every new unique code and Smart Coupon code that Instant creates after you save starts with your prefix.
  • Codes that Instant already sent do not change. They keep working at checkout as before.
  • The example codes in Add coupons and in the coupon edit window show your prefix, so you can see how a code will look before it sends.
  • The prefix is added to your codes in emails and in SMS.
  • Your prefix makes each code up to 10 characters longer. In SMS, Instant writes slightly shorter text so each message stays within its character limit.

Tip: Add a separator at the end of your prefix, such as SHOP- or SHOP_, so the prefix is easy to read apart from the rest of the code.

FAQ

Will my old codes get the prefix? No. Only codes that Instant creates after you save the prefix get it. Codes that shoppers already received do not change.

Does the prefix apply to my shared code or my own Shopify discount? No. Single shared codes and Existing Shopify Discount codes do not get the prefix. You can add the prefix to those codes yourself in Shopify.

Can I use a different prefix for each flow or coupon? No. There is one prefix for your site, and it applies to every unique and Smart Coupon code.

Can I change my prefix? Yes. Open Code prefix, type the new prefix and click Save. New codes use the new prefix. Codes already sent keep the old one.

How do I find Instant’s orders in Shopify? Filter or search your Shopify orders or order export for discount codes that start with your prefix.

Does the prefix make my SMS longer? The code is longer, but Instant shortens the rest of the text to keep each SMS within its character limit.
