What is the Skio integration?

The Skio integration connects your Skio subscriptions to Instant AI. Events from Skio, such as a shopper starting a subscription or a subscription payment failing, can start flows in Instant.

Why you need it

  • Without it, Instant does not know when a shopper starts, pauses or cancels a Skio subscription, so none of your Subscription flows can react to those events.
  • Without it, Instant does not know when a subscription order is coming up, has gone through, or has failed.
  • Without it, your subscription emails must stay in Skio or Klaviyo.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • You need a Skio account for the same store, with at least one subscription product.
  • You need to be able to log in to Skio and create an API key.
  • You need the Custom Webhook Integration card in Skio. If you do not see it under API & Integrations > Integrations, ask [email protected] to show it for your store.

Creating a Skio API key

  1. Log in to Skio
  2. Go to API & Integrations > API Keys
  3. Enter a name for the key, for example Instant
  4. Click Generate API key
  5. Copy the key and keep it somewhere safe

Note: Skio shows the API key only once. If you lose it, generate a new key.

Copying the webhook token

  1. In Skio, go to API & Integrations > Integrations
  2. Scroll down to the Custom Webhook Integration card
  3. Click Enable
  4. Click the eye icon next to Webhook token to show it
  5. Copy the webhook token. Keep this tab open, because you come back to this card later

Connecting Skio

  1. In your Instant AI dashboard, click the Settings cog in the bottom left corner
  2. Under Site, select Integrations
  3. Select the Subscriptions tab, or search for Skio
  4. Click Connect on the Skio card
  5. Paste the API key into the API key field
  6. Paste the webhook token into the Webhook token field
  7. Click Connect
  8. Instant opens the Skio page and shows your Webhook URL
  9. Click the copy button next to the Webhook URL

Sending Skio events to Instant

Skio cannot add the webhook for you, so you paste it into Skio yourself.

  1. Go back to the Custom Webhook Integration card in Skio
  2. Paste the Webhook URL from Instant into the card
  3. Turn the integration on
  4. Click Save
  5. Add these events:
    • New subscription created
    • Subscription paused
    • Subscription cancelled
    • Billing reminder notification
    • Subscription renewed
    • Billing attempt failed
  6. For Billing reminder notification, enter how many days before the renewal to send it (for example 3), and set Kind to All
  7. Save your changes in Skio

Note: Use the Custom Webhook Integration card under Integrations. Do not use the Webhooks tab under API Keys. Instant refuses events sent from that tab.

Setting up a Subscription flow

  1. Go to Flows in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Scroll to the Subscriptions section
  3. Click Manage flows to see every flow in that section
  4. Click Set up next to the flow you want
  5. Click Start from Template to add a starter email. The email, subject line and preview text are already written for that event
  6. Edit the copy and design to suit your brand
  7. Enable the flow when you are ready to send

Note: If Skio already sends a notification email for the same event, turn that email off in Skio. If you also have Skio flows in Klaviyo, turn those off too. If you do not, shoppers get two emails for the same event.

How it works

Subscription flows

Each flow starts when Skio sends Instant the matching event. 6 flows in the Subscriptions section can start from Skio:

  • Subscription Started: starts when a shopper starts a subscription (Skio event: New subscription created).
  • Subscription Paused: starts when a shopper pauses a subscription (Skio event: Subscription paused).
  • Subscription Cancelled: starts when a shopper cancels a subscription (Skio event: Subscription cancelled).
  • Upcoming Subscription Order: starts when Skio tells Instant that a subscription order is coming up (Skio event: Billing reminder notification). The number of days you set in Skio decides how far ahead of the order this happens.
  • Subscription Order Succeeded: starts when a subscription renews (Skio event: Subscription renewed).
  • Subscription Order Failed: starts when Skio cannot charge the shopper for a subscription order (Skio event: Billing attempt failed).

How often a shopper gets each email

  • Each subscription, order or payment sends its own email. A shopper with two subscriptions can get two emails.
  • If Skio sends the same event more than once, Instant sends the email only once.
  • These flows do not wait for a cooldown between emails, so a shopper can get emails from two Subscription flows on the same day.

Subscription details in your emails

  • The starter emails include the product name from the Skio event.
  • The Upcoming Subscription Order email also includes the next billing date.
  • The Manage Subscription, Resume Subscription and Update Payment buttons link to the shopper’s own subscription page in Skio.
  • If an event has no product name or date, the starter copy leaves it out of the sentence. If an event has no link to the subscription page, the button shows Shop Now and links to your store.

Tip: Keep the product name, date and button link in place when you edit the starter copy. They come from the Skio event, so each shopper sees their own details.

FAQ

I do not see the Custom Webhook Integration card in Skio. What do I do? Email [email protected] and ask them to show the Custom Webhook Integration card for your store.

I clicked Send test in Skio, but no email arrived. Is it broken? No. Skio sends its test event for a sample shopper address that has no email marketing consent. The test starts the flow, but Instant sends no email to that address. To test the email, set up a real subscription with your own email address.

Instant shows an error when I click Connect. What do I do? Check the Skio API key. If Instant asks you to add a subscription product, add one in Skio, then connect again.

Can I connect a different Skio store to the same Instant site? No. Disconnect Skio first, then connect the other store.

Can a shopper get a Subscription flow only once? No. Subscription flows send one email for each event, so a shopper gets a new email each time the event happens.

Should I share the webhook URL? No. Keep it private. Anyone who has the URL can send events for your store. Paste it only into the Custom Webhook Integration card in Skio.

What happens if I disconnect Skio? Your Skio flows stop starting. Instant cannot remove the webhook URL from Skio for you, so also turn off the Custom Webhook Integration card in Skio. You can reconnect at any time.
