What is Import template?

Import template copies a whole campaign or flow, with all of its steps, into your site. You can import from the same site or from any other Instant site that you are a user of.

Why you need it

  • If you run more than one store, you otherwise build the same campaign or flow again on each site.
  • An imported email uses the brand of the site you import into, from that site’s Brand Kit, so you do not rebuild the design for each store.
  • You can copy a multi-step campaign or a full flow in one action, instead of one email at a time.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • You must be a user of the site you want to import from. A site that you are not a user of does not show in the list.
  • To import into a flow, the flow must be off. Turn it off before you start.
  • To import into a scheduled flow, remove its schedule first.

Importing a campaign

  1. Go to Campaigns in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Click Import template
  3. Choose the site to import from
  4. Choose the campaign to import
  5. Check each step in the preview
  6. Read the status lines in the modal (see “What the status lines tell you” below)
  7. Click Import template

Instant makes a new draft campaign with every step of the source campaign, and opens it.

Note: A campaign imported from another site has no audience. Choose its audience before you schedule or send it.

Importing a flow

  1. Go to Email Templates in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Open the flow you want to import into. The flow must be off.
  3. Click Import template
  4. Choose the site to import from
  5. Choose the flow to import
  6. Check each step in the preview
  7. Read the status lines in the modal
  8. Click Import template
  9. Check each step of the flow
  10. Turn the flow on again

Note: The import replaces all steps of the open flow. The steps that were in the flow before the import are not kept.

Copying one email only

To copy a single email instead of a whole campaign or flow:

  1. Open the email in the email editor
  2. Click the … menu
  3. Select Clone template
  4. Choose the site and the email to copy

You can choose the same site or another site that you are a user of.

How it works

What is copied

  • Every step of the source campaign or flow.
  • The content and layout of each email.
  • Products, links and Rules, as they are on the source site.
  • SMS steps, but only when you import into a Custom flow.

What is not copied or changed

  • Brand: the logo, colours and other brand settings come from the Brand Kit of the site you import into, not from the source site.
  • Flow settings: a flow keeps its own trigger, name and on/off state. Only its steps change.
  • Campaign audience: a campaign imported from another site has no audience.
  • Coupons from another shop: a coupon that names a discount from the other site’s shop is not copied.
  • SMS in other flows: if you import into a flow that is not a Custom flow, SMS steps from the source are not copied. The flow keeps its own SMS.

Subject line and preview text

When you import a flow, or clone an email into a flow, the subject line and preview text follow the rules of the flow that the email goes into. For example, if AI writes the subject lines in that flow, AI keeps writing them.

What the status lines tell you

The import modal shows status lines about things to check before or after the import. For example:

  • Products that the site you import into does not have.
  • Subject lines that AI writes in this flow.
  • SMS steps that this flow does not send.
  • Emails that are not ready to send.

Tip: The preview shows each step as the site you import into will send it, with that site’s logo, links and products. Use it to spot problems before you import.

FAQ

Which sites can I import from? The site you are on, and any other Instant site that you are a user of.

Why can I not import into my flow? The flow is on or it has a schedule. Turn the flow off, or remove its schedule, then try again.

Does Instant translate the content or update the links for my other store? No. Products, links and Rules come from the source site as they are. Check them after the import, especially when the stores use different languages, currencies or domains.

Will importing a flow change its trigger or name? No. The flow keeps its trigger, its name and its on/off state. Only the steps are replaced.

Why did my coupon not come across? A coupon that names a discount from the other site’s shop is not copied. Add a coupon from the shop you imported into.

Can I import only one step of a campaign or flow? Not with Import template. To copy one email, use Clone template in the email editor’s … menu.
