What are price multipliers by product type?
Price multipliers let you multiply the Shopify price of every product of one product type before it shows in your emails. Use them when you sell in part units, so your emails show the same price as your store.
Why you need one
- Some stores sell in part units, such as fabric by the ⅛ yard. Shopify holds the price of one small unit, and an app on your product page shows the price per yard.
- Your emails use the Shopify price, so without a multiplier they show the small-unit price, such as $1.25 in place of $10.00.
- Without a multiplier, the only fix is to hide prices in your emails, which also hides the correct prices on all your other products.
How to set it up
Before you start
- Make sure each product sold in part units has a Product type in Shopify. Multipliers apply by product type.
- Work out the number to multiply by for each type. For example, fabric that Shopify prices per ⅛ yard uses 8, half-yard cuts use 2, and quarter-yard cuts use 4.
Adding a multiplier
- Click the Settings cog in your Instant AI dashboard
- Go to Preferences
- Scroll to Price multipliers by product type
- Click Add product type
- Choose a product type from your store’s list. Each type shows how many products it has.
- Enter the number to multiply its price by
- Add one row for each product type that needs a multiplier
- Click Save Changes
Note: You cannot save a row with no product type, the same product type twice, or a multiplier of 0 or 1.
Turning prices back on
If you turned off Price in your emails because of this problem, turn it back on in the product blocks of your flows after you add your multipliers.
How it works
- Every email that shows a product price uses the new price. This includes browse, cart, checkout, price drop, back in stock, low stock, welcome and winback flows, product blocks in campaigns, and the preview in the email editor.
- Sale (compare-at) prices change too, and so do the “$ off” amounts in price drop emails.
- Products of other types keep their Shopify price.
- A product in the shopper’s cart keeps the cart line price, because that price already counts the quantity in the cart.
- The price shows with no unit. For example, “$10.00”, not “$10.00 / yd”.
Tip: You can type in a product type that no product has yet. The row says No products have this type now. The multiplier applies to products you give that type in Shopify later.
FAQ
Does Instant read the multiplier from my fractional selling app? No. You set the multiplier yourself in Preferences. Instant does not read it from the app on your product page.
Can I show the unit next to the price, such as “/ yd”? No. The price shows as a number only.
Why does a cart email show a different price from a browse email for the same product? Cart emails use the cart line price, which already includes the quantity the shopper added. The multiplier does not change it.
What happens to products that do not have a product type? They keep their Shopify price. To use a multiplier, give the product a product type in Shopify.
