If you have shoppers spread across multiple timezones, a single send time means some recipients get your email at 9am and others get it at 3am. Sending in your recipients' local timezone fixes that with one campaign.
Why use it:
- Every shopper receives your email at a sensible local hour, which lifts open rates in regions that would otherwise get the email overnight.
- You only build one campaign. No cloning per region, no separate sends to manage.
- Engagement stays consistent across your audience, so reporting reflects content performance rather than a timezone lottery.
Choosing a timezone
When you schedule a campaign, the timezone dropdown has two options:
- My timezone (default). Everyone receives the campaign at the same absolute time, based on your store's timezone in Shopify. You can check your store timezone by hovering the globe icon at the bottom of the dashboard.
- Recipient's timezone. Each shopper receives the campaign at the chosen time in their own local timezone.
How sending works in recipient's timezone
If you schedule a campaign for 5pm in recipient's timezone, sending begins as soon as the clock hits 5pm somewhere in your customer base. The campaign moves to Sending at that point.
Each shopper then receives the email when 5pm arrives in their local timezone. Depending on the spread of your audience, the campaign can stay in Sending for up to 24 hours. Once every shopper has been dispatched, it moves to Sent.
How we work out a shopper's timezone
We use each shopper's location, based on their address and any information enriched from your Shopify and Klaviyo integrations. If we can't determine a shopper's location, we fall back to your store's timezone.
What happens if the time has already passed
If a shopper's local 5pm has already passed by the time you schedule, they receive the campaign at your store's 5pm instead.
Things to know
- You can't cancel a campaign once it's in Sending. Sending starts the moment the scheduled time hits the earliest timezone in your audience.
- This option isn't available for A/B test campaigns.
- This applies to email only. SMS campaigns send at your store's timezone.
