One way that shoppers identify themselves on your website, so that you can later re-market to them, is by placing an order. Today, many orders go through express checkouts like Shop Pay and PayPal. It is important to properly identify shoppers using express checkouts, otherwise, Instant may not remember them next time they return to your website. Without this, a large portion of your web traffic could go unidentified, limiting the revenue generated by Instant.
Instant automatically tracks shoppers using express checkouts, but many customers who went live before November 2024 may not have Express Checkout Identification enabled.
How to enable Express Checkout Identification
- Log into your Instant dashboard.
- At the top of the dashboard, you should see a banner instructing you to update your integration with Instant.
Click the Update Setup button in this banner and follow the instructions, which will ask you to generate and enter a Shopify API key into the dashboard.
If you do not see a banner instructing you to turn on Express Checkout Identification, you already have it enabled, and you can disregard.
Shoppers using express checkouts will now be identified for future remarketing.
