What is a look?

A look is a second version of your Brand Kit, with its own colours, fonts, buttons, images and logo. You choose the dates it runs, and all your emails use it between those dates, then go back to your Default look on their own.

Why you need one

  • Your Brand Kit styles every email, so changing it for a sale means changing it back by hand when the sale ends.
  • Smart Rules can swap the content in a block, but they cannot change your colours, fonts, buttons or logo.
  • With a look, you set up your sale branding ahead of time and nobody has to remember to switch it on the day.

How to set it up

Before you start

  • Your Brand Kit shows as the Default look. Every new look starts as a copy of it, so check that your Default is up to date first.
  • Looks change your emails only. Your sign-up forms and AI campaign images keep using your Default look.

Adding a look

  1. Go to Instant AI > Brand Kit in your Instant AI dashboard
  2. Click Add look in the top-right corner
  3. Enter a name, for example BFCM
  4. Click Create and edit

Styling your look

The look opens in the Brand Kit editor.

  1. Select the edit pencil next to the section you want to change, for example Colours or Button
  2. Make your changes and watch the preview update on the right
  3. To use a different logo, open the Logo section and click Upload primary logo. You can also add a mobile logo.
  4. Click Save changes

Note: Your tone of voice always comes from your Default look. To change it, click Edit default brand kit in the banner at the top of the editor.

Scheduling your look

When you click Save changes, the schedule window opens.

  1. Set the Start date and time
  2. Set the End date and time
  3. To run the look again later, click Add more dates and add another start and end
  4. Click Schedule

To save the look without dates, click Skip and save. You can schedule it later.

Times use your store’s time zone, which shows at the bottom of the window.

How it works

Which look an email uses

  • Instant checks which look is live when each email sends, not when the email was built.
  • Between the start and end you set, all your flow and campaign emails use the look.
  • After the end, your emails go back to your Default look.
  • Only one look can be live at a time, so the dates of two looks cannot overlap.

What still overrides a look

  • Styling you change on one email in the email editor still applies on top of the live look.
  • Content inside custom HTML blocks, or text that is part of an image, does not change with a look.

Looks on the Brand Kit page

Each look shows its status:

  • Live now: your emails use this look now.
  • Scheduled: the look has dates in the future.
  • Not scheduled: the look has no future dates.
  • Ended: the look’s dates have passed.

The live look shows first in the list, followed by your Default look.

Changing, ending or deleting a look

Click the actions button next to a look, then:

  • Edit look to change its styles or logo
  • Schedule or Change dates to set or change its dates. In the schedule window, End now stops a live look straight away, and Remove dates clears dates that have not started.
  • Delete look to delete it. If the look is live, your emails go back to your Default look. You cannot undo a delete.

To edit your Default look, click the edit pencil on the Default row.

Tip: Set up your look a few days before your sale starts, then use the preview in the editor to check your blocks and flows in the new styling.

FAQ

If I change my Default look, does my scheduled look change too? No. A look is a copy of your Default look from the day you created it. Later changes to your Default do not go into the look, so update the look too if you need the same change in both.

I changed my Brand Kit but my emails did not update. Why? A look is probably live. While a look is live, your emails use it in place of your Default look. Your changes to the Default show again when the look ends.

Can I preview my emails in the look before it goes live? Yes. Open the look with Edit look, then use the Blocks, Flows and Review tabs on the right of the editor.

Do my sign-up forms use the look? No. Looks change your emails only. Your sign-up forms keep using your Default look.

Can I use the same look for more than one sale? Yes. Click Change dates, then Add more dates to add another date range.

What happens to a campaign that sends during my look’s dates? It uses the look, because Instant checks the look when each email sends.
